With so many things to do on the island of Maui, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. For this reason, we recommend taking it one side at a time. Today’s focus: the west side. Once the home of Hawaiian royalty, Maui’s westside now boasts high-end resorts, art galleries, and miles of beautiful beaches. Charming, beautiful, and friendly—we love exploring Maui’s west side and why we know that you will too.

To help you get started, here are our recommendations or a perfect day on the west side:

Maui West Side Morning Activities

Laihana Activities

Start the morning with a peaceful stroll through Lahaina’s historic Front Street. Front Street is many things: an art hub, a trendy collection of cafes and restaurants, and one of Maui’s most popular tourist attractions. It’s hard to experience everything this town has to offer, but it’s an absolute pleasure to try. Some of our favorite places to visit include Ono’s Gelato and Fleetwood’s on Front Street.

If you have a little more time, walk down to the Lahaina Banyan Tree. Protestant missionaries planted this iconic landmark in 1873, and its roots now cover just short of an acre of land.

Fun fact

The American Planning Association ranked Front Street as one of the “Top Ten Greatest Streets” in the country.

Maui West Side Afternoon Things To Do

Afternoon Private Class at Moana

Time for an adventure! Fill your afternoon with a snorkel tour of Maui’s pristine waters. Beginners and professionals alike will enjoy this opportunity to see tropical fish, dolphins, and other sea creatures that call these waters home. Experienced crews will choose the ideal snorkel location based on weather and other conditions, ensuring you have the best experience possible.

No gear? No problem. These snorkel tours provide all the essentials, including sunscreen, for you. You’ll also receive first-hand instruction from a dedicated crew.

(For those who prefer to keep their legs on firm ground, you’re always welcome to swing by Moana Glass by Ryan Staub for a lesson in glassblowing! Our classes are entertaining and educational. Plus, you’ll go home with a one-of-a-kind souvenir.)

Maui West Side Evening Attractions

Sunset at Ka’anapali Beach

Head to Ka’anapali Beach for dinner and a sunset. This area, just north of Lahaina, includes some of Maui’s most popular resorts, hotels, and vacation condominiums. Whether it’s a family affair or a romantic evening for two, you won’t regret dinner reservations at a beach hotel. Time your dinner for just before sunset for full effect.

Of course, there’s always more to do on this exciting side of the island. Make sure to check back for future blog posts!
